I'm getting ready for a whirlwind tour of South America. Where are the places in Santiago that Americans hang out?

Comment #1 Beth (201.215.121.28) - 09/10/06 11:34

I wish I knew. I´ve been here for a little while and I can´t find any. I know you posted this quite a while ago but if you have found out any more information please let me know. I´m getting a little lonely.

Comment #2 Jim (152.163.40.228) - 09/10/06 12:33

Maybe you can post a few messages about your experiences in Santiago and help drum up some interest (here) and in town.

Did you have any immigration issues getting residency?

Comment #3 Peter (118.173.254.162) - 04/09/08 07:17

Hi, are you blind? All chileans are americans.

If you mean US citizens, than just go to the embassy in providencia. There are a lot....

Comment #4 Virgil from Seattle - 07/23/08 18:25

Peter, nice snide remark. If you've traveled to Canada, Mexico, Central America, Haiti, Dom Rep or Columbia most US Citizens are called Americans by the locals.

Comment #5 Lenny (152.163.34.16) - 07/24/08 07:17

That's right Virgil... sometimes in movies they will translate to "Americans" or "North Americans"... but usually the people refer to those from the USA as simply "Americans".

Those the word "American" has various meanings, when used alone and referring to people it is usually referring to people from the USA.

Comment #6 Rich (63.176.159.170) - 10/24/08 12:30

Isn't that obvious? If your American, you will be called an American.. Canadian, your called Canadian..

Comment #7 John from New York City - 10/25/08 04:18

But Chile is in SOUTH American... so they are Chilean and American.

Comment #8 Henry (63.176.159.236) - 10/31/08 10:01

Whats the problem here? You sound like a bunch of kids!

Comment #9 Drake (63.176.159.107) - 11/08/08 18:40

Henry it is nice of you to drop by here and meddle with the affairs of the "kids" hahaha. Well, count me in!

You got that right! I believe all English speaking caucasians who lived and is a citizen of America be called "Americans" but that doesn't mean all we be called that way. For instance, Mexicans. You don't call them as "Americans" for a lot of different things, they don't speak or its not their national language to speak English and nor their currencies. Their continent is just named South America but they are not Americans. Call a people of the country what they are. Unless you want everyone to be called specifically from where they are which will make thinks more confusing. Hi New Yorkians, Montevideans, see? it will make matters worst. Stick to the basic! Everyone happy!

I have put a link on here for you tat will give you a list of dining locations as well as clubs and tourist attractions.

Comment #11 Geneva (63.176.159.59) - 12/05/08 17:09

Here is another spammer again. Get off the forums Sara! You didn't even place the link on your spamming post. Dining locations, clubs and tourist attractions? maybe you are at the wrong forum. This is not some advertise your establishment forum. Just tell where the Americans hang ut without marketing your brand!

Comment #12 dustin (63.176.159.131) - 12/22/08 10:15

Geneva, i don't think Sara is a spammer. As you can see she was trying to post a LIST of establishments, attractions, and tourist locations. Not her particular one. She actually tried posting something useful in here while you just say stupid meaningless crap..

Sara, could you please try and post the link again.. thanks!

"EXPATS LIVING IN SANTIAGO.....!!!!!!!!!"

Let me recommend a wonderful site: www.expatsinchile.com theres more than 700 members from 35 countries.

Comment #14 John from New York City - 01/21/10 06:03

"URL dropping"

I don't think you'll get much interest with drive by URL dropping. If you participate here and offer some interesting comments, advice, questions, information, etc, then you'll develop your URL as a resource people will want to visit.

Often times "largest" isn't "best". It may well be. Tell us enough so that we'll believe in your case it is. "Largest" isn't enough incentive for my click.

What do you all think?

"Can we get back on topic?"

Hello all I am new to this site and have been reading not only the Chile site but all of the countries sites listed at the bottom left hand corner of each page. I have found that there seems to be a lot of squabbling and not much help being offered with the exception of a small few.

I would ask as a person who will be traveling through central and south America that people who come to these sites please use them for the intended purpose...

Helpful experienced iformation and conversation about the posted topics and questions.

I too am in need of as much information as possible and would love to hear as much as possible. However it is very time consuming to navigate these sites due to the fact that so many people just simply reply with NO USEFUL INFORMATION.

Please help Brad and myself with usable info so as to make our trips more pleasant and as for myself I will be sure to post as much of my own experiences as are pertinent to topics that i come across.

Thank you and happy peaceful living to you all, God bless

"Furthermore..."

Also please fell free to contact me as I am a contactable member (which is totally free btw and i have yet to recieve any spam) My main questions are copied and pasted below from previous attempts to retrieve useful info.

Thanks for any and all replies

Hello all. I will be traveling through central and south America very soon and I will be doing it by motorcycle. I am interested in hearing any and all tips, advice and do's and dont's that people are willing to share with me. I am concerned about the safety of myslef and my motorcycle and would like to heasr thoughts about the possible dangers of having the bike there period. Is the bike going to be a large target for theft. Are there places that i should definitely stay away from with or without the bike? Will i incur costs to travel from border to border with the bike?

I would also like to know if anyone has any suggestions on where i need to DEFINITELY see with or without the bike. Does anyone know of or is anyone interested in hosting a traveler if even for a short time and a small fee? My Spanish is almost nill so I am hoping to learn as I go. I have been to several Asian countries and so ive experienced different cultures before but as wee all know that Asia may as well be a different planet compared to where I am going.

Also I am a chef by trade and would love to open a truly authentic Italian restaurant if anyone has suggestion as to where that sort of food would be welcomed and a small business of such would be successful.

Thanks for any and all who read and reply to this.

Happy peaceful living and God bless you all.
