Expatriation to ChileCan anyone please email me with the income requirements for expatriation to Chile? I am talking about what you need to get a visa to live there permanently.Doug
You just can't move to Chile like that. There are endless visa and re-entry requirements, you can only obtain a work visa for a year, so you should find somewhere else to move.
Doug: See Chile-yen.com. The ex-pats there certainly do not report the restrictions suggested by the previous reply you received. They are, however, selling an e-book...which is fairly interesting.
I'm looking at a move to Chile early 2008. My employment history is leaisure based, having opened up bars and restaurants in this country. Saying that, I'm pretty multi-skilled and my Spanish is improving. Can anyone suggest some good places to begin looking for work etc...
It might be best to plan a trip to visit and check out the requirements first hand!
yes you can just move to chile like that. You can get a 'rentista' visa or pension visa. You need to be able to prove you can sufficient income from shares/stocks, rents from real estate or other income not directly from your job. The requirement is 'enough to live on'. The minimum wage here is classed as this amount and is around us$350 a month. You can organise your visa once already in Chile and you can do it by post. It takes around 3 months but the second you put the application in the post you're legally allowed to stay in the country until you get resolution from the authorities. You'll need to get bank statements, an accountant's letter etc Apostilled by your government (Foreign Office in the UK and state department in US) and then translated and legalised over here in Chile. Look up apostille on google. If you're looking for a great place to invest, set up a bar or restaurant or just buy a really amazing property then you should think about Valparaiso and the surrounding area and coast. It's really beautiful here. have a look at my blog www. corrugatedcity. blogspot.com for more info about life over here (make sure all the spaces are taken out-i couldn't include the link normally without exceeding the max word length!). Good luck, Matt

Matt, thank you -thank you. As we're interested in retiring to Chile, it is difficult to find pertinent info. We found CHIP (Chile info project)and it covers a lot of topics and various Visas, but never mentioned the "Pension Visa". We're flying into Santiago in February, and will start the process while we're down there. ANY other tips? Steve
